Many couples, preparing a sound foundation for their marriage, find that pre-marital counseling provides the needed tools. Sometimes, despite the best efforts of one or both partners, divorce is inevitable. Given the current statistics (over 50% of first marriages end), divorce is now considered a “normative crisis” in adult life, i.e., the difficulties surrounding divorce are not seen as signs of pathology, but rather as a type of “normal trouble” of this common life stage.
